Frequently asked questions

Is smoking allowed?

The interior of the ship is a no-smoking zone: smoking is only allowed on the sun deck. As a safety measure, a statutory smoking ban applies in all cabins; this means that all cabins and rooms on board are no-smoking zones.

Are pets allowed?

We're sorry, it's not allowed to take your pets aboard.

What is the role of the tour guide on board the ship?

Every evening, after dinner, the next day’s cycling tours are discussed. Information on individual, non-guided cycling tours in the Netherlands is provided in Dutch, English and German. The guests will cycle the daily leg of the journey individually and at their own pace. Detailed maps and route descriptions will be given to help you find your route.

The tour guides also travel along by bicycle. In the event of an emergency, they can always be reached via a mobile telephone. On individual, non-guided trips outside the Netherlands you will cycle at your own pace using maps and route descriptions, the tour guides and ship’s crew are reachable via mobile phone. Guests who are on guided tours will cycle in groups under the supervision of an experienced local tour guide. Trips outside the Netherlands are not always guided by Dutch-speaking tour guides. However, the guides and crew are able speak English and/or German. Information on the selected tour is provided on request.

How do I reach my boarding destination?

After booking your holiday, we will send you detailed information on how to travel to your destination by car, train or aircraft, and how to reach your ship’s mooring location. You will receive information on where to park your car. At some destinations you can reserve a parking space in advance. If you are using your own means of transport - with the exception of Venice - it is recommended that you drive your car to the ship first to unload your baggage and bicycles, and then park your car. In Amsterdam we recommend using "Park+Ride" (P+R) Zeeburg: the costs for one week use amount to around €65 (price level on 01 January 2009). Unfortunately, it is not possible to reserve these parking spaces in advance.

Insurance?

We recommend that you take out travel, accident (if applicable with international coverage) and cancellation insurance. We can advise you on this, however, travellers are free to choose with which company they want to take out travel insurance. Please remember that cancellation insurance should generally be taken out shortly after making your reservation.

Cycling helmets compulsory?

In Slovakia (Danube tours) and Croatia, all cyclists are required to wear a cycling helmet. In Italy children up to and including the age of 16 are required to wear a helmet. In all other countries, it is always recommended that you wear a helmet, but it is not compulsory. If you are going to wear a helmet, we recommend that you bring or buy your own helmet.

Bike rental or your own bike?

The bicycles on board are mostly unisex touring or. trekking bikes with normal mount (ladies model), 7 gears, hand brake and/or pedal brake and pannier bag. Other bikes (e.g. E-bikes, children’s bikes) and child’s saddles (front or rear) must be ordered at least 14 days before departure: prices on request. Bike rent is optional.
Guests are also allowed to bring their own bicycles (at no extra cost), with the exception of Italy. However, the crew or tour operator are in no way responsible for any damage, loss or theft of such bicycles. In Belgium bikers are not obligated by law to wear a bike
helmet. Bike helmets are not available on board.

Are the boat-bike holidays also suitable for children?

All the trips are suitable for children. However, please be sure to check in advance whether your children can cycle between 30 and 60 kilometres per day. Of course, you are also welcome to remain one or more days on board the ship. Children up to and including the age of 18 years must be accompanied by an adult.

Dietary wishes

If you have special dietary wishes (vegetarian meals, or a lactose- or gluten-free diet), then please indicate this while making your reservation. Vegetarian meals are always available, in all other cases we will check the possibilities for your selected trip. In some cases an additional charge may apply; this mainly applies to lactose- or gluten-free meals.

How many crew members are aboard?

In a nautical area there'll be a captain and two sailors. Beside those three there will be staff and a tour guide.

I often suffer from seasickness. Will I also be seasick while travelling on rivers?

There are a lot less waves on a river. People seldom suffer from seasickness while on a boat-bike holiday.
