    Itinerary

Day 1 Athens / Salamina (Embarkation)

Individual journey to Athens or Salamina. The ship Erato departs from the Marina Alimos harbor, located in the Athens suburb of Palaia Faliro. The ship Thalassa departs from the island of Salamis at the central pier in Salamina. Check-in on the ships is possible from 4 pm onwards. Dinner on board and overnight stay in Athens or Salamina.

    Day 2 Kythnos Island
    25km15 mi

Early in the morning we sail to Kythnos Island, famous for its cheese and honey since the antiquity. We begin our first cycling tour in the harbour of Merichas and head towards the island’s capital, Chora. Along the way we can enjoy wonderful, scenic views of the coastline. Chora is a lovely town, situated on a high plateau. The town’s alleys are decorated with painted flowers and geometric patterns. We continue on to the picturesque village of Driopida before returning to Merichas, where we can spend the evening in one of the cosy tavernas.

Day 3 Seriphos Island – Syros Island
    30km18 mi

In the morning, our boat takes us to Seriphos, a small island far off the beaten tourist track. The island is characterised by deep valleys, countless bays and coves, and numerous beautiful sandy beaches. From the harbour town of Livadi, we cycle along a serpentine road to the island’s main town of Seriphos, whose cube form houses, nestled into landscape, stretch along the mountain ridge high above the sea. From Seriphos, we continue on through untouched landscape to the Byzantine monastery of the Archangel Michael. We then return to Livadi along a panoramic road on the East coast. . In the afternoon the ship takes us to Syros, where we can stroll through the breathtaking old town and round off the day in one of the numerous cafes on the spacious harbour promenade.

Day 4 Syros Island – Kea Island
    30km18 mi

The town of Ermoupolis on Syros is the capital town of the Cyclades and offers an unforgettable view upon arrival: The town which is built on two hills is different from the other Cycladic towns. Pastel coloured houses, many of which have classical facades dominant the townscape. We cycle along the coast of Syros which is full of bays and coves along the entire southern half of the island to the beautiful beach of Galissas and then past the convent of Saint Barbara back to Ermoupolis. In the afternoon we continue by boat to the island of Kea.

    Day 5 Kea Island
    25km15 mi

Our starting point for exploring the north western-most inhabited Cycladic island is the beautiful natural harbour of Korissia. From here we climb up to the island’s capital Ioulis before continuing on to the white sand Otzias Beach where we enjoy a refreshing swim stop. Afterwards we cycle back to Korissia, and then sail to Poros in the Saronic Gulf in the afternoon. The harbour town of Poros is truly spectacular with its iconic clock tower soaring above the rest of the town. Poros in the perfect place to enjoy a relaxing evening and get lost in the authentic Greek island atmosphere.

    Day 6 Poros Island
    25km15 mi

Today, we almost completely circle the entire island of Poros, which dates back to the 18th century. We cycle on and almost completely circle the entire island, which in ancient times was dedicated to the sea god, Poseidon. Shortly before the end of the tour we arrive at Russian Bay, a sandy beach with turquoise blue waters, the perfect place for a relaxing swim! Once back in Poros, we board the boat and enjoy a delicious midday meal as we cruise to Aegina.

Day 7 Island Aegina – Athens / Salamina
    35km21 mi

The island of Aegina is famous even beyond the borders of Greece for its excellent pistachios. Today’s bike tour takes you up to the sanctuary of the goddess Aphaia. The beautifully preserved temple towers sit high up above the blue sea, the only place on the island from where the Aegean Sea can be seen on both sides. On the ride back you will cycle through the center of the island passing the great monastery of Saint Nektarios to Aegina city where the ship awaits. We’ll then sail back to Athens (Erato) or Salamina (Thalassa) and round off our exciting Greek cruise with a final, celebrative evening on board.

Day 8 Athens / Salamina (Disembarkation)

After breakfast on board it is time to disembark to return home or to extend your holiday a few days longer in Athens.

    Good to know
    • Itinerary changes: The Cyclades are relatively susceptible to wind. Normally this will only result in minor modifications of the tour route. However, should the wind be too strong or dangerous, the travel route may markedly differ from the planned route. Our substitute tour leads through the Saronic Gulf for the entire week, one of the most historic regions of Greece: We would cross between the Greek mainland and the Peloponnese and discover the islands of Aegina, Poros, Hydra, Spetses, and the Methana peninsula. A highlight of this substitute journey is a visit to the ancient Epidauros, home to the best-preserved theatre in Greece.
    • Language: Due to our international audience the tours are conducted bilingually, in English and German.
    • Level 4 / 5: Cycling tours through hilly to mountainous terrain with some steeper ascents of up to approximately 400 meters. All tours, including the elevation gains, can be mastered more easily with electronic assistance. Requires confident riding on winding descents, uneven asphalt, and occasionally gravel paths. Suitable for experienced cyclists accustomed to longer daily stages.
      • Distance: 25 β€“ 35 km per day
      • Total elevation: 250 – 500 meters of elevation per day
    • Relevant for all levels: Safe cycling skills and familiarity with road traffic are prerequisites for taking part in our tours. Anyone renting an e-bike should already have experience and be confident in handling e-bikes, as these bikes are significantly heavier and faster than conventional bikes.
    • Individual cycling:  This tour is primarily a guided group tour. Upon consultation with your tour guides, the possibility to cycle on your own along recommended, suitable routes, may present itself. You are free to set aside a half or full day to swim or spend on board the boat, instead of taking a planned bike tour.
    • Internet availability: A free WiFi connection is available on your ship. On the open sea, reception cannot be guaranteed at all times. If you need stable Internet access during your voyage, we recommend that you take your laptop or tablet to a cafΓ© or bar at the port. Free WiFi is offered almost everywhere. If you order something there, you can use the WiFi without restriction.
    • Children: We believe that only children in good physical condition with a minimum age of 10 and previous bicycle tour experience are able to manage the daily bike tours independently. Please note that the minimum height for a rental bike is 1.30 m (4.3 ft.) for hybrid bikes and 1.50 m (5 ft.) for e-bikes.
    • Catering: The on-board chef is a member of the crew and prepares the breakfast and one or two warm meals a day. The catering starts with dinner on the arrival day and ends with breakfast on the departure day.
    • Which payment methods are accepted on board? We do not accept credit cards on board of our boats. Payments such as drinks, tourist taxes, parking spaces etc. can be made in cash only. The accepted currency on board is the euro. Your local guide will point you in the right direction of the nearest ATM or currency conversion office.
    • Our ship Please don’t forget that the ship is a machine as well as your hotel, which has to be maintained and operated – day and night. A certain level of noise is therefore inevitable.

      Disappointed experience& &

Extremely disappointed that the original itinerary for the trip was not followed and another substituted due to supposed concerns for weather issues. This was apparently decided prior to leaving port and was not made clear until later in the trip. What was substituted was basically another itinerary with modification including additional time docked in port and activities that were not really appropriate for all. While the rides on the islands were interesting, they were not adequately staffed and at times not as described in the promotional literature – even the tour guide was surprised by this. While the other passengers and boat crew were delightful – and the food wonderful – it was not the experience expected nor purchased.

      Reply from Boat Bike Tours

Dear Richard, thank you for providing us with your feedback. We are sorry to hear that your boat and bike touring experience fell so severely short of your expectations. It is our greatest ambition to always provide our programs according to schedule, however, especially on the sea, there are influences such as the weather that are completely out of our control. In this case, the safety and wellbeing of our guests is the highest priority, and we put our trust in the experience of our captains to give their most honest evaluation of the possible cruising route. It is in turn the responsibility of us as the tour operator to provide our guests with the best possible alternatives in the region in such cases. During your week with us, the accommodation, the daily bike rides and activities as well as the provided cultural information throughout the tour was provided in the equivalent range and quality of the program you had originally chosen. We understand the disappointment caused by not having seen the Islands you had anticipated, and hope for your understanding that the best efforts were given by all involved in hosting you in Greece as we worked around the given circumstances.

Trip not as advertised bait and switch scheme

Boat air conditioner did not work despite saying we were in an air conditioned room. Air conditioning didn’t work in any of the rooms. Pubilished itinerary wasn’t follow we only visited 2 of 6 island promised. Weather was used to shorten distances vessel traveled saving the captain/vessel a ton on fuel costs replacement islands were less than desirable. Watching the weather on the internet the captain could have gone to the other 4 islands with some modifications but chose to save himself some money and work by shortening the distances traveled. Fully a bait and switch to the owners benefit.

      Reply from Boat Bike Tours

Dear Ron, Thank you for sharing your feedback with us regarding your travel experience in Greece. It is unfortunate to learn of the difficulties you experienced with the air conditioning on the boat during your time on board. With the rising temperatures, we understand the discomfort this can cause. A technician was ordered immediately on return of the boat to Athens. The changes in the tour program during this week were very much weather related and based on the comfort and safety of our guests. We do not have the need to apply tour changes to save costs, with many alternatives costing us more then the scheduled plan we have calculated with. We monitor the weather together with our captains and are in constant contact in providing the best possible tour alternative. During your week with us the Methana Peninsula and the islands of Poros, Spetses, Hydra and Aegina were built into the alternative program. We are sorry that the experience provided was worthy of just one star. Due to the relaxed atmosphere on board, the guides were left with the impression that the guests, although provided with an alternative tour, were extremely thankful for the efforts given and by the alternative provided. We apologize if that was not the case and wish that we had been alerted earlier of your dissatisfaction and the severity of your discomfort in order to apply possible solutions before the end of your time with us on board. Kind regards, Boat Bike Tours & Islandhopping

The guides and crew were great

The guides and crew were great. I was disappointed we only did three of the islands that were on the itinerary. Would of enjoyed longer bike rides.

      Reply from Boat Bike Tours

Thank you for your feedback. We’re glad to hear you enjoyed the guides and crew. We appreciate your thoughts about the itinerary and the desire for longer bike rides and visiting more islands. We ll keep this in mind to better meet our guests preferences. We hope to welcome you again on board in the future. Kind regards, Boat Bike Tours

      Don’t use Islandhopping transfer service.

I paid 90 Euros EACH way for a transfer with Islandhopping from the airport to the boat whereas friends who took an Uber paid less than 45 Euros. Not only was I overcharged but they didn’t show up on time at the airport to pick me up. They insisted they were there but they were not there when I arrived. I believe they were there but an hour and a half after I arrived. I waited for an hour and was not contacted so I thought they just didn’t show up so I took a taxi meaning I had that extra expense as well as the overcharge I paid to Islandhopping. The person I spoke to at Islandhopping would not listen to me and just kept insisting the driver was there. I believe the driver was there but 1.5 hours late. Islandhopping didn’t give the driver a way to contact me or me a way to contact the driver. It was all very poorly handled by Islandhopping.

      Reply from Boat Bike Tours

Dear Kim, we are very sorry to hear that our transfer service for you in Athens did not work out as planned and that this experience has left you with such a disappointed impression beyond your tour experience on board. The pre-booked transfer services we provide are generally more expensive than taxi options on site, as the drivers arrive at the airport specifically for our guests and wait for their arrival regardless of flight delays or other interferences. The dedication to wait on our guests is what results in the higher price. On this specific day, our driver waited at the airport for 1.5 hours terminating his objective to find you only after we had received a call from you confirming that you were in a regular taxi on your way to the boat. It is very unfortunate that you were not able to reach us prior to this on our local emergency number provided in the boarding information. As previously confirmed by one of our team, we are unable to refund the transfer but have provided alternative compensation as a token of our sympathy for the complications experienced on arrival in Greece. We do hope that you were able to enjoy the tour itself and that the impressions of the islands visited and the connections made with fellow travellers during your time on board as well as the support of our tour guides and crew will remain as lasting memories. If we are able to welcome you on board another time in the future, we hope to make up for this unpleasant experience. Kind regards, Boat Bike Tours and Islandhopping
