Day 1: Welcome to the Netherlands – Amsterdam arrival
Upon arrival at Amsterdam Schiphol Airport, a Boat Bike Tours representative will greet you in the arrival hall and escort you via private minivan to your hotel, The Hoxton Lloyd Amsterdam. Located in a vibrant former harbor district with a distinctive maritime atmosphere, the hotel is housed in a beautifully restored historic building. It offers a welcoming blend of old-world charm and modern comfort, and is ideally situated for the journey ahead. There, your tour leader will warmly welcome you and assist with check-in. Throughout your stay, your tour leader will act as a dedicated concierge, available to assist with any questions or personal arrangements.
In the afternoon, gather in the hotel lobby to meet your fellow travelers and begin your European adventure with the first tour highlight: a private canal boat cruise and welcome reception. Afterwards, take some time to explore Amsterdam at your own pace and soak in the city’s vibrant atmosphere.
Day 2: Cycle to the ship – Amsterdam to Utrecht (10 km / 6 mi)
After breakfast and check-out from your hotel, begin your day with a fitting session for your bike before heading out for a gentle ride through Amsterdam’s scenic parks and leafy neighborhoods. Pedal past tree-lined canals and urban green spaces as you get comfortable on two wheels. While you’re getting acquainted with your bike, your luggage will be transferred separately and delivered directly to the ship – you’ll find it in your cabin upon arrival. In the afternoon, you’ll arrive by bike at your floating hotel, the luxurious Magnifique X. After settling into your suite, the ship sets sail toward Vianen. Enjoy your first evening onboard, including an engaging introduction to Dutch history and geography in a short, enriching lecture.

Day 3: Silvercraft & windmills – Utrecht to Dordrecht (32 or 56 km / 19 or 34 mi)
This memorable day begins with a cycling route that leads you to the charming town of Schoonhoven, famed for its silversmithing tradition. Take some time to explore the quaint streets and artisanal shops before continuing on through the Alblasserwaard region — a quintessentially Dutch landscape of dikes, green pastures dotted with cows, and wide-open skies. Along the way, pause for a specially arranged Taste of Holland experience: a leisurely lunch featuring regional specialties in a picturesque local setting. It’s the perfect moment to relax, refuel, and savor the flavors of the Dutch countryside. Your next destination is the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Kinderdijk, where 19 historic windmills tell the story of the Netherlands’ centuries-long battle with water. From nearby Alblasserdam, board the fast Waterbus to reach Dordrecht, one of Holland’s oldest cities, where your ship awaits.

Day 1: Arrival in Paris – The City of Lights

After your flight, a Boat Bike Tours representative will greet you at Charles de Gaulle Airport and accompany you to your deluxe, centrally-located hotel in Paris, the Hotel des Grands Voyageurs. Upon arrival, your tour leader will warmly welcome you and assist with check-in. Throughout your stay, your tour leader will be your dedicated concierge — available for recommendations, questions, or personal arrangements. In the afternoon, meet your tour leaders and fellow guests during a relaxed welcome reception. Take time to settle in, explore your surroundings, and savor the anticipation of the journey ahead.
Day 2: Journey northwards – from Paris to Bruges
Today begins with a scenic coach transfer from Paris to the medieval heart of Flanders: Bruges! Here you’ll board the deluxe Magnifique X, your floating boutique hotel for the coming week. Settle into your suite, get acquainted with your bike, and take a short stroll or ride to absorb Bruges’ enchanting atmosphere. This is where your active yet relaxed adventure truly begins. Get to know your fellow passengers over a delicious dinner on board the ship, and wind down with an after-dinner drink or a soak in the hot tub on deck.

Your first day of cycling takes you to the North Sea coast, along scenic farmland and dunes. This extension is the perfect way to complete your journey – with time for reflection, relaxation, and soaking up the city’s laid-back charm.

The rental bikes on our ships are unisex bicycles with a low bar and a comfortable upright sitting position. These are stable and dependable bikes, good for miles in the saddle. Decide which kind of bike you want to rent and simply fill in your preference with your reservation. We’ll make sure you get the right bike for you. On most of our tours, the bike rental cost is not included in the tour’s price.
Every Boat Bike Tour rental bike is well equipped. The bikes consist of a lightweight aluminum frame and have highly-responsive handbrakes, at least seven speeds, an adjustable gel seat, normal flat pedals (no clips), an easy-to-use lock attached to the frame, and special puncture-resistant tires. All told, this is a light, stable and reliable bike, very suitable for touring long distances pleasantly.
Our e-bikes also have at least seven speeds and handbrakes. The motor runs on a 400Wh battery and offers three levels of power-assistance. The e-bikes include comfortable gel seats that can be adjusted for height, have a lock attached to the frame, and sport anti-puncture tires. Note that some of the ships have their own bikes on board. They may look a bit different, but qualitatively they are equal to Boat Bike Tours’s e-bikes.
Bicycle helmets
The use of bicycle helmets is not required in the Netherlands, but for safety’s sake they are suggested. If you wish to rent one, you can do so during the booking process. If you book a premium tour and rent a bike or e-bike, then the helmet and a “limit of liability for damage or loss” for your bike or e-bike is included in the rental price.

Other items such as children’s bikes, tandems, family tandems (child & adult), tag-along, trailers to carry toddlers and child seats are available on request.
Taking your own bike or e-bike?
The fee for parking your own bicycle is €10 per week. For an e-bike the fee is €25 to cover parking and charging the battery. For safety reasons it is not always possible to charge your e-bike batteries in your cabin. The crew will tell you where you can charge the battery on board the ship. Neither the crew nor Boat Bike tours is responsible in any way for any damage, loss or theft of a guest’s own bike or e-bike or its accessories. Note: not all the ships are suitable or have enough room for extra bikes, so make sure you check with us well ahead of travel.
