At Boat Bike Tours, we believe that sustainable travel starts long before the first bike ride. It’s not just about exploring the world. It’s also about preserving it. That’s why we’re proud to announce a new partnership with Dutch offset organization Orca, supporting a project that delivers real, measurable CO₂ reduction right here in the Netherlands.

A smart, circular solution to plastic waste
Recycling may not be new, but Orca is taking it to the next level. In their facility in Biddinghuizen, hard plastic items like garden chairs, buckets, and crates are transformed into valuable raw materials. Instead of being burned or dumped in landfills, plastic waste becomes part of a circular economy.
The result? A tangible reduction in carbon emissions, a smarter use of resources, and a visible difference you can actually trace, something we saw first-hand during our sustainability team’s recent visit to Orca. Watching discarded plastic products become clean, usable material was not just inspiring. It was proof that sustainability can be clear, concrete, and local.
Why this matters to us, and to you
Many CO₂ offset programs operate far from where the impact is made. Our partnership with Orca is different. The emissions we compensate happen in the Netherlands, where Boat Bike Tours is based. That means we’re taking responsibility right where it counts, in the heart of the landscapes and waterways our guests love to explore.
There’s another reason we chose Orca: economic pressure makes new plastic cheaper than recycled material. Supporting this initiative helps drive long-term change and strengthens the local recycling industry: an investment in both the planet and the future.
Certified, transparent, and accountable
Transparency is at the core of this project. The CO₂ savings are certified by the Stichting Nationale Koolstofmarkt, calculated using research by TNO, and verified by DNV. Over the coming years, this partnership will help compensate 5,000 tons of CO₂, while simultaneously reducing plastic waste and supporting local green innovation.
