I’m an adventurous globetrotter – life without a challenge just isn’t for me. Born in Santpoort, raised in IJmuiden, passed through Haarlem, and eventually landed in Amsterdam – my home base. After earning my degree in social work, I eventually felt the pull again… and in the late ’80s, I dove headfirst into the world of adventurous, active, faraway, off-the-beaten-path travel as a tour leader. Back then, travelers were pioneers, and so were the guides – with plenty of gusto. I did it for yeeeears.
Long story short: after doing development work in a refugee camp in Kenya, I eventually returned to the Netherlands and started a new career as a civil servant. Lost my job during the financial crisis, launched my own coaching business, reconnected with the travel world… one thing led to another, and that’s how I ended up at Boat Bike Tours.
My hobbies: The great outdoors! I love everything active I can do out there: hiking, biking, skating, swimming, running. Lately, I’ve caught a bit of the triathlon bug…
Also: (investigative) journalism, exploring other cultures, culture in general, and history. I’m a bit of an omnivore when it comes to interests.
What I love most about my work: My work is my hobby, and my hobby is my work. That says it all! This is truly the most fun job I’ve ever had. It combines three of my biggest passions: guiding/coaching/travel leading, cycling, and giving people an unforgettable experience.
At Boat Bike Tours since: 2018
