The ship – Your sailing hotel

In between cycling excursions, you cruise along with the ship, which travels to a new destination every day. You will sleep and have breakfast and 1 warm meal on board. Depending on the program, this will be lunch or dinner. The other meal is ashore (not included). It’s possible to spend a day on board if you like.

This tour is part of our Islandhopping PLUS program. The PLUS tours offer our guests a PLUS all-round: a comfortable motor yacht, unlimited e-bike availability, as well as some pleasant surprises along the way.

    Itinerary

    Day 1 Bodrum (Embarkation)

Individual arrival to Bodrum. A collective transfer from Bodrum Airport to the harbour is available for an extra cost on request. Check in begins on the Gullet at 4 pm. Use the evening hours to enjoy the lively atmosphere in the city of Bodrum and relax with a typical Turkish tea. In the evening a shared dinner on board can be enjoyed in the company of your travel companions and tour guides.

    Day 2 Kos Island/Kos Town
    30km18 mi

In the morning we cross over to Kos town and bike in the direction of the world-famous archaeological excavation site of the Asclepion in Kos, the former home of Hippocrates, the father of modern medicine. We cycle on until we reach the town of Kos. A wealth of cultural sights in Kos town provide an insight into the town’s turbulent historical past including the Roman Forum, the Crusader fortress, and the mosques from the time when Kos was part of the Ottoman Empire. The evening can be spent in one of the numerous bars or cafes in the town.

    Day 3 Leros Island
    28km17 mi

We enjoy an early morning crossing to the scenic Island of Leros. Today’s ride leads us to the fort of the Knights of St. John of Jerusalem in Agia Marina and on through the small alleyways of the town. Passing the picturesque town harbour, we cycle on to the seaside chapel Agios Isidoros, a popular place on the island to get married. Following the coastline, we reach a beautiful sandy beach where we stop for a swim and coffee. We then cycle on to the boat before sailing for Patmos or a nearby bay.

Day 4 Patmos Island – Lipsi Island
    12km7 mi

Today we visit Patmos and its grotto on a short panoramic bike tour. It is said that St. John received the revelation during his captivity here. The world-famous monastery of St. John of Chora is found in a village with numerous white alleys, and 34 churches and chapels. After our visit, we cycle along the coast until we reach the port. We meet the boat for lunch and crossing to Lipsi. Enjoy the afternoon in the charming harbour town and be sure not to miss out on a visit to the legendary pastry shop!

Day 5 Lipsi Island – Kalymnos Island
    9km5 mi

In the late morning we explore Lipsi by bicycle, gaining an impression of its rich agriculture as we follow the route once around the island. In the afternoon we will cross over to the island of Kalymnos to the main port of Pothia, where we will spend the night. The old town of Pothia still clearly shows the former wealth of its inhabitants acquired through sponge diving.

Day 6 Kalymnos Island – Kos Island
    42km26 mi

Today, a round tour by bike on Kalymnos is on the program, on which we will get to know the entire island, which has made a name for itself far beyond Greece’s borders as a climber’s paradise. We will also pass through a surprisingly green valley for this barren island and enjoy wonderful views of the bay-rich coast. Back in Pothia, the ship awaits us for lunch and the crossing to Kos Town for an overnight stay.

Day 7 Kos Island – Bodrum
    24km14 mi

Our last cycling tour leads to the Embros thermal springs, where we can have a lengthy swim. After lunch ashore, we enjoy our last cruise back to Bodrum. Here we can once more go for a walk through the lively old town of Bodrum with its impressive castle of the Knights of St. John of Jerusalem and the remains of the famous Mausoleum of Halicarnassus, one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. An evening meal is enjoyed together in the company of guides and guests.

    Day 8 Bodrum (Disembarkation)

After breakfast disembarkation. Collective transfers to Bodrum Airport possible on request.

Upon consultation with your tour guides, the possibility to cycle on your own along recommended, suitable routes, may present itself. You are free to set aside a half or full day to swim or spend on board the boat, instead of taking a planned bike tour.
    • Group riding pace: On our e-bike tour programs, the riding pace is determined by the cyclists on the e-bikes. Guests who are taking part on these tours on a road bike should have the necessary physical condition to keep up with this pace. We thank you for your understanding.

If you need to connect to the internet during the tour, we recommend bringing your portable electronic device to a cafe or bar somewhere in the harbour. Free WiFi is on offer almost everywhere. If you order something to eat or drink, then you are able to use the WiFi to your hearts content.
    • Own bicycles: Please be aware, that we have a weight limit of 22 kg (48.5 lb), if you bring your own bicycle on board of one of our boats. It is not possible to bring own E-bikes on board. This limit is important to protect the health of our guides/crew members, than they have to lift the bikes on board. • Luggage Advice: Please bring your personal belongings in fold-able travel bags. Please avoid hard protective cases. They will be too heavy to store within your cabin.

Some 5 star aspects but significant room for improvement

The guides, cycle routes, boat crew, food and e-bikes were all excellent and I would give that part of the trip 5 stars. However, the boat itself is only a 3 at best. The cabins are not well designed with inadequate storage space. On previous bike and barge trips we had storage under the beds which was very handy. There are not enough drawers to make it easy to get at your clothes. The ventilation is a HUGE problem. The air conditioners which are needed due to the lack of ventilation are not controllable. They provide uncomfortably cold air which blows directly on you while in bed. You can t leave the portholes open to get fresh air if the sea is even a little bit rough. The air conditioners are not available all night and once they are turned off it gets hot in the cabins, You can t open the portholes to get fresh air if the seas are even a little bit rough since water comes in through them. If you are unlucky enough to be given a cabin on the starboard side you will get diesel fumes in your room whenever the generator is running. The bathroom doors should have a fastener to stop them from banging against the shower. The pillows are rock hard and very uncomfortable. It is extremely difficult to get a good night s sleep on this boat. On the positive side, the guides, Emma and August were awesome. Their communications were clear and timely and they did a great job reorganizing things due to mechanical issues with the boat and some inclement weather on our last day. The e-bikes are excellent& .some of the best we have used on our numerous trips. The crew on the boat were really great. The food was excellent and plentiful. The bartender made a really good margarita and provided excellent service throughout. The prices for wine and beer were on the high side given the availability of cheaper products in the region. It is also difficult to understand the logistics of embarkation on the first day. We all had to make our way to a harbour outside of Bodrum, and then the next morning we went back to Bodrum to clear immigration. Why not have everyone meet at the immigration centre, complete the process and then board and sail to Kos on the first night rather than staying in a relatively isolated harbour with no nightlife. On the last night we docked in a commercial type harbour& .like a small ship yard. What a horrible place to spend our last night!! It s hard to enjoy fun places like Bodrum when you are docked in places like this. More swimming stops would have been appreciated. The recommended tip at 10 percent of the base trip cost is very high.

We just returned from a fabulous trip&

We just returned from a fabulous trip with BoatBike tours in Turkey and Greece. The ship The Admiral was beautiful and a fun home for the week. Ali and August were great guides and we enjoyed exploring the islands by bike with them. The e-bikes were very nice! Apol was friendly and took care of all our needs on the boat and the rest of the crew were also friendly and capable. The captain did an excellent job navigating the boat and all the busy harbors. The trip was nicer than we even imagined and we look forward to planning another BoatBike trip in the future!
