This time we did the Hanseatic tour on Magnifique II. It was another amazing experience and one I would highly recommend! As with all the Magnifques the ship is lovely, the crew are amazing, and the food is top shelf! As this is our third tour (Tulip and A’dam-Brugge were the others) one thing we had noticed every time are guests who overestimated their cycling capabilities and booked a standard bike instead of an e-bike. The guides are amazing providing them with a spare e-bike if available, but there are only so many. Please, for the sake of your own enjoyment, if you don’t ride at least 20-30km once a week at home, book an e-bike! The crew on this trip were so amazing! When my wife who has perfume allergies expressed a concern, they immediately went out and bought unscented detergent and washed all the table linens (not just our table) to make sure she was comfortable! Shout out to our wonderful guides, Edith and Andre who would add little detours if they knew of a cool spot to see, and had so much knowledge of the history of the places we visited. Joline and Alexandra were outstanding hostesses and took great care of everyone. Gerad was tireless in the kitchen! I am usually up early and he was at work at 5:30am every day! Captain Micheal and First Mate Thomas made me feel especially welcome and part of the team (except when Thomas and I discussed Eredivisie Football!) We are excited to learn that the new Magnifique I is joining the fleet next year, with the success BBT has been having, they are going to need more boats!

We spent a week aboard the barge Sarah along with 18 cyclists, the youngest 50?, the oldest 80 plus, from USA, Canada, Australia, & Germany, and England. The conditions were ideal to enjoy socialising on deck or ashore after mooring up. Swimming off the boat felt very refreshing after a ride in the hot weather. The en-suite cabins are tiny so we didn’t spend much time there. All substantial breakfast and evening meals were served aboard by the excellent chef and crew of four. We made our own packed lunch. The comprehensive cycle path network is often shaded by long avenues of trees, and surfaced in either concrete, paved or tarmac, away from motor traffic roads. You do have to watch out for cyclists coming fast in either direction. With our energetic and attentive leader to guide us at the head of the line we cycled 40k plus most days. Our tour started and finished in Amsterdam and we moored up in Arnhem, Doesburg, Deventer, Kampen, Spakenburg (Hanseatic cities) which we explored on foot. Each evening after dinner we had a brief tour of a town together before discovering a bar (even a music festival) for further refreshment. Although the watery landscape is flat, the scenery constantly changes; the farming and land use, architecture, and cycling/transport infrastructure all provide a fascinating unfolding panorama (or cyclorama!) Discovering and embracing the Dutch cycling culture is a constant pleasure. More time for photos and selective sightseeing would be appreciated. Also, historical and cultural information combined with an explanation about the route, towns and areas we visited would be worth providing in addition to the tour notes.

This is our sixth Boat Bike Tour. They are all different. Different boats, different guides, different scenery, different food. But all of them are very good and interesting and never boring! Would recommend it to anyone with an adventurous spirit.

The tour was fantastic. Lena Maria was a great boat. Cabins were super clean , all organized. Hot showers always available. We will be back for sure. In fact I am interested to organize a group tour for my cycling club back in Vancouver. Suggestions for improvement: The bar charges were wrong for us and we had to argument our side. The correction of charges was also wrong. We were puzzled by the errors. We had given a large tip already so we felt a little cheated.

Great trip but basic boat. We had a great time on the Gandalph on our recent Hanseatic Holland trip. The food was excellent and the crew both friendly and helpful. The cycling was good with lovely countryside and interesting places to visit. That said, the boat itself is not as good as some of the others on which we have been. It is a little on the small side with no separate salon/seating area – all must be done in the dining area or on deck. The cabins are also small and quite basic. Don’t necessarily let that put you off, but do not expect luxury – it is not that sort of trip.

Our Hanseatic Tour on the Barge Sarah was fun and enjoyable. Our accommodations and meals were excellent and the crew of Captain Berthus, Host Jonne, Mate Romek, Mate Romek, and Chef Agrueszka were a well oiled machine. Our tour guide, Piet, added to our ride by providing historical and current information about the area we covered. We highly recommend Boat Bike Tours!

I really enjoyed the wonderful crew and tour leader – it was a fun and authentic experience traveling with people from around Europe and getting an up close view of the Netherlands. The cycling was great exercise and we traveled through forests and on dykes that you can not really experience any other way.
