About this tour

On this tour we explore the sunny islands of the Greek Aegean by bike and on board a comfortable Turkish Gulet. The islands are a magical and mythical world brimming with stories and cultural wonders. Come with us on a discovery voyage and experience the Aegean by land and by sea. Relax while swimming in idyllic bays, enjoy the spectacular views, and discover the region’s turbulent, glorious past.

Let us take you to the ancient Asclepion where Hippocrates, the famous physician, practiced modern medicine. Enjoy the peaceful island of Lipsi and the atmosphere on the holy island Patmos and look forward to the incredible panoramic views that can be admired on the cycling tours throughout the trip.

The ship – Your sailing hotel
In between cycling excursions, you cruise along with the ship, which travels to a new destination every day. You will sleep and have breakfast and 1 warm meal on board. Depending on the program, this will be lunch or dinner. The other meal is ashore (not included). It’s possible to spend a day on board if you like. There are rental bikes on board, but you can also bring your own if you mention it when booking.

Day to day program

Day 1: Bodrum (Embarkation)

Individual arrival to Bodrum harbour. A collective transfer from Bodrum Airport to the harbour is available for an extra cost on request. Check in begins on the Gullet at 2 pm. Use the evening hours to enjoy the lively atmosphere in the city of Bodrum and relax with a typical Turkish tea. In the evening a shared dinner on board can be enjoyed in the company of your travel companions and tour guides.

Day 2: Kos Island/Kos Town (aprx. 19 mi./30 km)

In the morning we cross over to Kos town and bike in the direction of the world-famous archaeological excavation site of the Asclepion in Kos, the former home of Hippocrates, the father of modern medicine. We cycle on until we reach the town of Kos. A wealth of cultural sights in Kos town provide an insight into the town’s turbulent historical past including the Roman Forum, the Crusader fortress, and the mosques from the time when Kos was part of the Ottoman Empire. The evening can be spent in one of the numerous bars or cafes in the town.

Day 3: Leros Island (aprx. 17.5 mi./28 km)

We enjoy an early morning crossing to the scenic Island of Leros. Today’s ride leads us to the fort of the Knights of St. John of Jerusalem in Agia Marina and on through the small alleyways of the town. Passing the picturesque town harbour, we cycle on to the seaside chapel Agios Isidoros, a popular place on the island to get married. Following the coastline, we reach a beautiful sandy beach where we stop for a swim and coffee. We then cycle on to the boat before sailing for Patmos or a nearby bay.

Day 4: Patmos Island – Lipsi Island (aprx. 7 – 10 mi./12 – 16 km)

Today we visit Patmos and its grotto on a short panoramic bike tour. It is said that St. John received the revelation during his captivity here. The world-famous monastery of St. John of Chora is found in a village with numerous white alleys, and 34 churches and chapels. After our visit, we cycle along the coast until we reach the port. We meet the boat for lunch and crossing to Lipsi. Enjoy the afternoon in the charming harbour town and be sure not to miss out on a visit to the legendary pastry shop!

Day 5: Lipsi Island – Kalymnos Island (aprx. 6 – 10 mi./ 9 – 16 km)

In the late morning we explore Lipsi by bicycle, gaining an impression of its rich agriculture as we follow the route once around the island. In the afternoon we will cross over to the island of Kalymnos to the main port of Pothia, where we will spend the night. The old town of Pothia still clearly shows the former wealth of its inhabitants acquired through sponge diving.

Day 6: Kalymnos Island – Kos Island (aprx. 26 mi./42 km)

Today, a round tour by bike on Kalymnos is on the program, on which we will get to know the entire island, which has made a name for itself far beyond Greece’s borders as a climber’s paradise. We will also pass through a surprisingly green valley for this barren island and enjoy wonderful views of the bay-rich coast. Back in Pothia, the ship awaits us for lunch and the crossing to Kos Town for an overnight stay.

Day 7: Kos Island – Bodrum (aprx. 15 mi./24 km)

Our last cycling tour leads to the Embros thermal springs, where we can have a lengthy swim. After lunch ashore, we enjoy our last cruise back to Bodrum. Here we can once more go for a walk through the lively old town of Bodrum with its impressive castle of the Knights of St. John of Jerusalem and the remains of the famous Mausoleum of Halicarnassus, one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. An evening meal is enjoyed together in the company of guides and guests.

Day 8: Bodrum (Disembarkation)

After breakfast disembarkation. Collective transfers to Bodrum Airport.

Good to know

Itinerary changes We reserve the right to make changes to the itinerary, depending on wind and weather conditions or organizational requirements. Sometimes the tour will be run in reverse order. Our tours are dependent on weather conditions and the final decision is that of the captain.

Language Due to our international audience all Islandhopping tours are conducted bilingually, in English and German.

Level 2 – 3 Aside from two challenging cycle tours on Kalymnos and Kos, this trip can be counted as one of the less difficult Islandhopping trips. The cycling routes require a basic level of fitness, which you should have acquired through regular cycling. The routes can reach an altitude of 200 to 500 meters. The daily routes of around 20 – 45 km/12 – 28 mi. will take us up through hilly and mountainous terrain and can be completed without time constraints. You will also come across some longer and rather steep climbs, where walking your bike is of course permitted. Participants will also need to master long and steep climbs, during which they are, however, also permitted to push their bicycles. Upon consultation with your tour guides, it may be possible for you to cycle on your own along suitable, recommended routes.

Group riding pace On our regular cycling tours, the cyclists on regular bicycles determine the pace. We ask guests who have reserved an e-bike to be mindful of this and to acknowledge that the regular cyclists need time to rest and take longer to climb the hills. We thank you for your understanding.

Children We believe that only children in a good physical condition and previous bicycle tour experience and with a minimum age of 10 are able to master the cycle tours on their own strength. Please note that the minimum height for a rental bicycles is 1.50 m (5 ft.)

Requirement to wear a helmet Helmets are mandatory on our bike tours. It is advised to bring your own, well fitted, helmet with you as our rental helmet numbers are limited (reservation required).

Catering The on-board chef is a member of the crew and prepares the breakfast and one warm meal a day. The half board starts with the dinner on the arrival day and ends with the breakfast on the departure day.

Internet availability Our boats in Greece do not offer a WiFi connection. If you need to connect to the internet during the tour, we recommend bringing your portable electronic device to a cafe or bar somewhere in the harbour. Free WiFi is on offer almost everywhere. If you order something to eat or drink, then you are able to use the WiFi to your hearts content.

Own bicycles Please be aware, that we have a weight limit of 22 kg (48.5 lb), if you bring your own bicycle on board of one of our boats. It is not possible to bring own E-bikes on board. This limit is important to protect the health of our guides/crew members, than they have to lift the bikes on board. If we consider it necessary, we will check the weight of the bicycle on site. If the weight limit is exceeded, we reserve the right to refuse taking the bike on board.

Luggage Advice Please bring your personal belongings in fold-able travel bags. Please avoid hard protective cases. They will be too heavy to store within your cabin.

Our ships Please do not forget that the ship is your hotel as well as a machine, which has to be maintained and operated – day and night. A certain level of noise is therefore inevitable.
